3DS and Mint Protect
Strengthening Protection for Verified Transactions
Mint Protect is Mint Payments’ chargeback protection feature, offering merchants peace of mind for certain types of chargebacks—specifically those arising from fraud, supplier insolvency, or non-delivery of services by suppliers.
To be eligible for fraud-related protection under Mint Protect, a transaction must be processed using 3D Secure (3DS), with successful authentication.
Why 3DS is Essential for Fraud Protection
Verified Customer Identity:
3DS adds a secure authentication layer, confirming the cardholder’s identity. This makes it significantly harder for fraudsters to use stolen card details and later dispute the transaction.
Lower Risk, Higher Assurance:
Transactions processed with 3DS are generally considered lower risk. Because there's a verified record of cardholder approval, these transactions meet the criteria for eligibility under Mint Protect’s fraud-related guarantee.
Supporting Responsible Merchant Practices:
Mint Protect is designed to support merchants who take proactive steps to secure their transactions. Requiring 3DS for fraud protection ensures the program remains effective, sustainable, and fair to all participating merchants.
Tramada Transactions and 3DS
At present, transactions processed via Tramada are not eligible for fraud-related protection under Mint Protect, as Tramada has not yet enabled 3D Secure (3DS) functionality. However, Mint is actively working with Tramada to enable 3DS, which will allow these transactions to be included in future fraud protection. Importantly, Tramada transactions remain eligible for Mint Protect coverage in cases of service non-delivery or supplier insolvency.
