Supported Payment Facilities for Mint Protect
About Mint Protect
When you have Mint Protect enabled, chargebacks related to the following chargeback categories are part of the waiver program:
- Supplier Insolvency: Chargebacks arising when a supplier becomes insolvent and fails to fulfil services.
- Service Non-Delivery: Chargebacks resulting from non-delivery of agreed services by suppliers.
- Fraudulent Transactions: Transactions disputed as unauthorised by the customer.
How these three chargeback categories apply can vary depending on the payment facility you use through Mint Payments. Each category is subject to eligibility criteria and the terms and conditions of the Mint Protect waiver agreement. Supplier Insolvency or Service Non-Delivery are supported on all card payments facilities whilst fraudulent transactions require 3D Secure to be enabled and utilised.
If a payment is disputed, you will need to provide us with evidence to support your business during the chargeback process. This helps Mint dispute the chargeback and is a requirement of the Mint Protect waiver agreement. If evidence is not provided in the requested timeframe, the Mint protect waiver will not apply. See this article for more information about the chargeback management process.
3D Secure & Fraudulent Transactions
In the case of fraudulent transactions, the Mint Protect waiver agreement applies when the cardholder authenticates the payment using 3DS (3D Secure).
3DS (3D Secure) is an extra security check during an online payment. It checks with the bank that issued the card to confirm the card and transaction is valid, and if the bank asks for it, the cardholder confirms the payment with a prompt or a one-time code.
It’s worth checking how you use or have integrated Mint payment facilities, and whether your use case supports 3DS. For example:
- Which payment facilities your staff are choosing to use
- Whether you have 3DS enabled on your Mint account
- Where applicable - how your mid-office interacts with Mint & 3DS
- Where applicable - how integrations through our API (e.g. websites) interact with 3DS
You may need to contact your mid-office provider or developer for confirmation.
If you are taking the cardholder’s details and entering them on their behalf (sometimes referred to as MOTO aka Mail Order/Telephone Order), 3DS can’t confirm that the cardholder processed the transaction. This means that the Mint Protect waiver will not apply to fraudulent transactions. The Mint Protect waiver still applies to Supplier Insolvency or Service Non-Delivery chargebacks where eligible.
